Xbox 2 Release Date Confirmed...Sort of
Bill gates seems to have inadvertently let the secret out - the Xbox 2 (AKA Xbox 360) will ship this year as many independent source have speculated.
During a speech yesterday to a national convention of business editors and writers Mr. Gates made reference to shipping the Xbox 2 "this year". The remark surprised some Microsoft officials, who have been comparatively secretive about release times.
Mr. Gates was speaking about consumer adoption of high-definition displays, which Microsoft is incorporating into its strategy as it takes on market leader Sony Corp./PlayStation franchise.
"What will the year of high-definition be?" Gates asked, rhetorically. He then answered his own question by saying that it would be tempting to think of it as "this year, because we're going to ship this next Xbox."
I'll stand by my earlier prediction of a November 2005 release. I just can't imagine that Mr. Gates and company would let the opportunity pass to release the Xbox 2 just in time for the Holiday shopping rush. If they release the Xbox 2 in November I'm willing to bet they won't be able to make the units fast enough to match the demand...every kid (and quite a few adults) who enjoys video games will have the Xbox 2 and handful of games on their Christmas list.
